Where Emotions Get Stored In the Body ~ and What to DO About That!
What? Feelings in the body? Who knew!? Probably you, manitou, if you have a body and you have emotions!
Our body is a miracle worker, just like our mind. Sometimes however, our mind lodges emotional bombs, bullets, quicksands, pit traps, etc etc in our body without our permission. When this happens, our body often feels and reacts to these emotions without our clear or conscious understanding of what is happening or why. This can show up in the form of aches, pains, fatigue, tremors, tears, raging, stammering, and a zillion other ways. One of my absolute Favorite books on Trauma is The Body Keeps Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk. Heads up however, it is not just Trauma that our body mounts in the body!
Unraveling your emotions from your physical being is a worthwhile venture; it may not be easy, but your whole self will benefit in ways you cannot imagine. Practices such as guided meditation, yoga therapy, reiki, and creative approaches may assist you with understanding how your body may be storing unhelpful emotions and helping your process and release them.
